REPORTED PROPERTIES OF INGREDIENTS:

In the second century B.C., REISHI (Chinese “Ling Zhi”) was a rare and valuable treasure harvested by Taoist monks from China's ancient mountainous regions. The monks used the mushroom to treat an incredibly wide variety of ailments and to inspire spiritual transcendence. After the introduction to the emperor's court, the herb became widely known as the “Elixir of Life” or "Mushroom of Immortality", and was available only to the wealthiest and oldest families in China. Reishi mushroom has been used as a tonic and strengthening medicine for thousands of years. Uses in traditional healing include increasing intellectual capacity and memory, promoting agility, and lengthening the life span.

Reishi possess anti-tumor, immunomodulatory and immunotherapeutic activities, supported by studies on polysaccharides, terpenes, and other bioactive compounds isolated from fruiting bodies and mycelia of Reishi. Reishi is reported to have some of the most active polysaccharides in the plant kingdom. Reishi been found to inhibit platelet aggregation, and to lower blood pressure (via inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme), cholesterol and blood sugar.

Reishi shows anticarcinogenic activity due to immune enhancement. Laboratory studies have shown anti-neoplastic effects against some types of cancer. Reishi has been reported to prevent cancer metastasis, with potency comparable to Lentinan from Shiitake mushrooms.

Additional studies indicate that Reishi can help to strengthen the liver against liver injury by viruses and other toxic agents, suggesting a potential benefit of this compound in the prevention of liver diseases.

Reishi is reported to have anti-bacterial and anti-viral activities. Reishi is reported to exhibit direct anti-viral properties with the following viruses: herpex simplex (HSV-1 and HSV-2), influenza virus, vesicular stomatitis. Reishi is reported to exhibit direct anti-microbial properties with the following organisms: aspergillus niger, bacillus cereus, candida albicans, and escherichia coli.

RECOMMENDED TO:

- Individuals with symptoms of weakening immune system

- Individuals with higher blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar

- For prevention of cancers, tumors, liver intoxication

- Elder people, as tonic and strengthening measure, for increasing intellectual capacity and memory, promoting agility, and lengthening the life span

PRECAUTIONS / WARNINGS / CONTRAINDICATIONS:

REISHI

- Avoid in patients with known allergies to reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), any of its constituents, or other members of its family

- Use cautiously in patients with diabetes or in those taking hypoglycemic agents because reishi may lower blood sugar levels

- Use cautiously in patients with blood disorders, such as thrombocytopenia or in patients who are taking anticoagulants or antiplatelets, such as warfarin (Coumadin®), due to the apparent anticoagulative effects of reishi. Reishi may precipitate an additive effect on clotting factors and prolongation of prothrombin time. Theoretically, patients with tendency for bleeding should be cautious when taking reishi, although human data are currently lacking.

- Use cautiously in patients taking amphetamines, as this combination may theoretically result in an antagonistic effect

- Use cautiously in patients with a history of hypotension or patients receiving therapy for hypertension due to the theoretical hypotensive properties exhibited by reishi

- Use cautiously in patients with gastric ulcers and active gastrointestinal bleeding due to the apparent anticoagulant effects of reishi

PREGNANCY & LACTATION:

- Not recommended due to lack of sufficient data.

CHILDREN BEFORE 6 YEARS OLD:

- Not recommended due to lack of sufficient data.
